Asst. Principal 11th Grade
Hello. My name is Durrell Burns, and I am excited to return to the Central Dauphin East High School community as the 10th-grade principal. It is a pleasure and an honor to serve you in this new capacity. I aim to support you as you prepare to be lifelong learners and contributing members of global society. Using an equity-centered leadership approach, I hope to remove barriers, build appropriate relationships, and actively participate in data-driven decision-making.
My career in education started when I earned my undergraduate degree from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, where I majored in English and minored in History. I attended Cabrini University to earn my 7-12 English Teaching Certification and Lincoln University to obtain my Masters in Educational Leadership. I am currently working towards my Doctorate in Educational Leadership through Shippensburg University in an effort to better advocate and support all learners. I spent my entire career as an English teacher in the Harrisburg School District. Courses taught include 9th & 10th Grade English, Public Speaking, Journalism, Creative Writing, History 1 &2, Media Studies, and Production Techniques. In 2022, I became employed with the Central Dauphin School District and taught at East High as a 9th-grade English and 20th Century Literature Teacher at East High.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and the Fraternity Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
It is my honor to serve as your 10th-grade principal, and I look forward to serving the East High Community.
